Movie Shout Out

I felt the need to give a shout out to one of my new favorite movies of all time. It is my custom to go to at least one movie at BYU's international cinema every week (sometimes i see two or all three) I usually go to the ones I've heard of, heard good things about, or are in French. This week I went and saw a movie that I have heard of but had no desire to see until this week and I can say without a doubt it is one of the best movies I have seen in a very very very long time. It was The Painted Veil. So many things about this movie are excellent; the acting (I've never truly loved Edward Norton until I saw him in this role) the scenery (Guilin, China- thank you Kristin) the music and the general repressed quietness of the whole movie. It really spoke to me and I highly recommend it to anyone. It is a truly beautiful film.
I also want to mention so movies coming out that I am really looking forward to seeing (they also happen to have Sundance and Oscar buzz) First Sunshine Cleaning, a movie about two sisters who own a business cleaning up after crime scenes. The cast has Amy Adams and Emily Blunt (two it girls right now and I have to say I love them both) Next Changeling, I have always had doubts about Angelina Jolie's acting chops until I saw the preview for this movie about a woman in Los Angeles in the twenties whose son is missing and the LAPD won't help her and accuse her of insanity. It looks really good. And lastly Doubt. This is the one I am most excited about, it is based on a Pulitzer prize winning play and is about a catholic school in the sixties and two nuns investigating some possible improprieties committed by the pastor of the church at the school. The cast has Meryl Streep (seriously looks oscar-worthy) Philip seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Looks phenomenal. alright enough fun movie talk back to studying for mid-terms.

oops. you slipped up on this one mister.

next time you tell me how busy you are and blah, blah. blah I will remember this post where you admit to going to the movies 2-3 times per week.

and sorry but the movie "doubt" looks like a giant turd. PERIOD. I saw the preview a few weeks ago and thought hmmmm. the whole purpose of this movie appears to purely be an oscar snatch. I am not in the mood to watch streep and hoffman flexing their wannabe master actor muscles while donning catholic garb and lurking around the playground.

But hey... not every film can be Costner and Kutcher in "the Guardian."

Alex and I actually saw "Doubt" on stage...where it began originally. It won a lot of awards, and while I'm not sure I would use the word "turd," I was underwhelmed to say the least.

So, rather than waste more time at the movies, take pity on your family and do something with them...in reality or cyberspace.
