A Finals List

Finals are on the horizon and will be here in a few days, and so I decided, in preparation for them, to make a list of everything I hate about finals this year.

1- Feeling like I should be at the library, when I really have no assignments to do.
2- Everyone asking me how my finals week is shaping up.
3- Having to pronounce Antigone wrong, we are reading a retelling of it in my French Lit. class and in French it's pronounced like the word anti and then the word gone but you emphasize the gone with a french nasal sound. I hate it, being the classics snob that I am.
4- Carrying all my textbooks in my backpack everyday.
5- Feeling guilty when watching a movie (see grievance 1)
6- My friends getting ready to scatter across the country within a week.
7- Going to several study groups in one day.
8- The weather being warm, but I have to stay inside and study.
9- Finding an British historical comparison to everyday things (today Marissa said something about uniting/combining and I said something to the effect of "Like the Plantagenet houses of York and Lancaster in 1485? Yeah, really.
10- Trying to remember what the hell a nucleotide is, and why I should care about nucleotides in general.
11- Everyone else I know being as on edge and testy as me.
12- Knowing that after Finals I have to find a job, work out more, and not being able to use homework as an excuse for not doing things.

There you go everyone. 12 grievances Jack has against this time of year, if it wasn't nice weather I couldn't make it. Consequently it's gotten to the point where campus looks like the aftermath of some battle, bodies laying down every place. It looks like we are reenacting something from the Civil War. But I digress, there is one bright shining thing in the distance and it is, no matter how I do on my tests or assignments it will all be over in a week, no matter what. I feel bette already.

with those 12 things it is impressive you found time to blog. sorry for asking about your finals week. I guess I helped out with offense #2.

Oh and in regard to #10...

A nucleotide is a chemical compound that consists of 3 portions: a nitrogenous base, a sugar, and one or more phosphate groups. In the most common nucleotides the base is a derivative of purine or pyrimidine, and the sugar is the pentose deoxyribose or ribose. Nucleotides are the monomers of nucleic acids, with three or more bonding together in order to form a nucleic acid.
Nucleotides are the structural units of RNA, DNA, and several cofactors - CoA, flavin adenine dinucleotide, flavin mononucleotide, adenosine triphosphate and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate. In the cell they have important roles in metabolism and signaling.

Duh?

I've got a great suggestion for relieving #4: They make these great backpacks with wheels, so you can drag your textbooks around campus like luggage...plus you look HOT while doing it.

Add Hamilton to your list on #11...this week he's cramming for NAPTIME tests everyday. So far he's barely passing (but getting extra credit for cuteness).

I added some Vampire Weekend songs in honor of your campus time...be inspired by those Columbia U boys...maybe you can rewrite "Oxford Comma" to be about nucleotides :).

I love that my baby boy has to write a list like that. So sweet. I'm so glad that he's finally embracing his inner scholar.

P.S. Those backpacks on wheels are for wimps.
