Quarantine

I remember when I was in like elementary or middle school, I read a book I don't really remember now, but I do know it was about sailing, and big ships. Maybe it was an abridged, illustrated Moby Dick or Billy Budd, regardless I remember there was some sickness on the ship and everyone had to be quarantined aboard the ship when it was in the harbor of some coastal city. Now, that I am feeling like crap and have been shut away in my room for the past seven hours, excluding bathroom breaks and two showers, I too feel the stir-craziness setting in. Another boat reference here, but as Muppet Treasure Island clearly illustrates through song and dance,

"I got cabin fever it's burning in my brain
I've got cabin fever it's driving me insane
We got cabin fever, we're flipping our bandanas
Been stuck at sea so long we have simply gone bananas

We got cabin fever we've lost what sense we had

We got cabin fever, we're all going mad"

I'm sure you all can relate to my struggle. Well I can feel some nyquil kicking in, so I will say good night until it wears off....around noon.

no sympathy from me...

* try being in a bed for 24 hrs....with a cathater (sp?)

* try breastfeeding a baby who wakes up everytime you try and pump, so you have no "freedom" supply.

on the other hand, at least it's gotten you blogging...

I respect all of your quarantine narratives. I really do.

In fact, I'm looking forward to Heidi's next quarantine scheduled for May. I think Travis may be in on that one as well. And we'll be helping with Luke, I'm sure, and there's no quarantining him.

However, I'm shocked that everyone, especially the American Studies and English majors, gave such naive readings of Jack's post, which is full of the Moby Dick symbolism implicit in his Muppet critique, which is, itself, a kind of satirical reversal of microcosmic limitation alluded to in the quarantine motif.

Jeez, people.

Let's think before we blog.

[Heidi did make a nice comment on the link between the physiological and psychological effects of mixing metaphor and Nyquil. Well done. I'm glad you're taking your responsibility as the only scientist in the family seriously.]
